Henry Ford

Since the foundation of the Company in 1903, the name has been attributed to the automobile Industry. The company’s founder became known for his innovation together with the transformation of cars into something regarded as a commodity for everyone.
Henry Ford, who was famed as an automobile manufacturer, was born on 30th July, 1863, Michigan. At the age of 16, he took an internship as a machinist in Detroit and learnt how to operate steam engines and studied book keeping.

When he was employed with Edison Illuminating Company as a chief engineer, he developed his concept behind a horseless carriage and the first model was constructed in 1896 known as the Ford Quadricycle, and later on he was encouraged by Thomas Edison to build a second one.

The Ford Motor Company was established in 1903. A month after the Ford Motor Company was founded, the first car was produced, this was known as Model A and comprised of two-cylinder and eight-horsepower which was assembled in Detroit. During that era, only a few cars could be assembled in a day, built by hand from groups of two or three.

Henry Ford was dedicated and struggled to be able to provide a car that would be both efficient and reliable and that it could be affordable for everyone. This resulted in the Model T
The Model T was introduced by Henry Ford in October of 1908. Ford became famous for his revolutionary vision since he was a manufacturer of an automobile which was not expensive and was made by skilled workers who were paid steady income.
In 1914, he was responsible for the sponsoring of the moving assembly line which was used for mass production. This model was simple to drive and cheap to repair, and this lead for half of the cars in America at around 1918 to be Model T’s.
The Model T was an immediate success and soon enough Ford was not able to manage all the orders for this car. In order to be able to solve his problem and satisfy the demands, he practiced new methods of mass production which later on where a major contributor to the American Industry. The Assembly line afforded a lower cost since cars could be produced faster.

It was in 1927 when Ford moved production, this time to a huge industrial complex that he had built. This included a glass factory, steel mill, an assembly line and necessary elements for automobile production. At the same time, he stopped the production of the Model T and he introduced this time a new Model A which composed of better horsepower and brakes. By that time, the company was the biggest automotive manufacturer in the world.

Unfortunately, Model A was not satisfying as much as Ford wished to, and even though it was ceased from production in 1931, in 1932 Ford came up with the first V-8 engine.
When Edsel Ford died in 1943, Henry Ford returned to the presidency of Ford Motor Company, shortly before passing it over to his grandson, Henry Ford II, in 1945. He died two years later at his Dearborn home, at the age of 83.
